We are available to present any of the talks listed below as part of our speaker series. Most run 45 minutes, with time for audience Q&A after. In honor of the opening of our new home, there are no speaker fees for 2026. These programs are well suited to universities, libraries, museums, historical societies, and community organizations, and can be tailored to a range of audiences. Interested institutions are encouraged to contact our Director of Curatorial Affairs, Melissa Ziobro, directly for availability and scheduling.
In the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, music played a powerful role in helping Americans mourn, remember, and begin to heal. This multimedia presentation explores how both existing songs and new music resonated deeply with the public in this somber period—from the emotional impact of Whitney Houston’s stirring national anthem to the inspirational message of “Hero” by Mariah Carey. At the center of the discussion is The Rising, in which Bruce Springsteen captured the grief, courage, and hope that defined the months following the attacks.
