SUMMARY:Music America: Iconic Objects from America’s Music History at Grammy Museum Mississippi
DESCRIPTION:Following its February debut at the LBJ Presidential Library and Museum in Austin\, Texas\, Music America: Iconic Objects From America’s Music History will open to the public at GRAMMY Museum® Mississippi on Friday\, Sept. 20. With close to 100 objects representing the best of American music\, the exhibit – curated by the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music (BSACAM) at Monmouth University in West Long Branch\, NJ – tells the story of how music has informed\, interpreted\, and inspired our national identity since it was founded nearly two-and-a-half centuries ago. This exhibit is made possible by Visit Mississippi and Mississippi Humanities Council with additional support from Ergon\, Inc. and South Delta Planning and Development District. The education programs for this exhibit are made possible by the Maddox Foundation.\n“Music has been deeply engrained in the fabric of American history since the nation was founded almost 250 years ago\,” said Emily Havens\, Executive Director of GRAMMY Museum Mississippi.\n“The Music America exhibit helps tell the complex story of American music by featuring objects from artists of all genres\, including those who put music from the Delta on the map. Together\, these artists and the songs they’ve made describe our national soundtrack. From rock and roll and country\, to the blues\, jazz\, and other genres\, visitors will learn how music has shaped and interpreted our national identity.” \n“In curating this exhibit\, we didn’t just want to focus on the history of rock and roll in America\, or country\, or blues\, we wanted to tell the story of how all of these genres together have shaped our identity as a nation\,” said Robert Santelli\, BSACAM Executive Director. “With the Delta being at the heart of so much music history\, we are thrilled to be bringing the Music America exhibit to the GRAMMY Museum in Mississippi. There are so many stories to be told\, specifically from Delta musicians alone\, and we can’t wait to share those with visitors to Cleveland.”\nOn display through April 13\, 2025\, the exhibit will feature iconic objects from artists such as Lead Belly\, Sam Cooke\, Bob Dylan\, Ella Fitzgerald\, Jimi Hendrix\, Billie Holiday\, Buddy Holly\, Whitney Houston\, B.B. King\, Elvis Presley\, and Frank Sinatra. Specific artifacts on display will include: Late 18th century hymnalEdison Standard PhonographSpringsteen’s outfit from the cover of 1984 album Born in the U.S.A.John Coltrane’s saxophoneLeonard Bernstein’s outfit and batonOriginal handwritten lyrics to John Mellencamp’s “Pink Houses”Stevie Ray Vaughan’s “Number One” guitarVisitors will also experience an interactive “Song Bar” that enables them to hear performances by some of the artists highlighted in the exhibit\, along with additional melodies that demonstrate the depth\, breadth\, and great productivity of American musicians. \nMusic America features artifacts from the permanent collection of the BSACAM alongside treasures from other institutions across the country such as the New Orleans Jazz Museum\, Hard Rock International\, and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame\, as well as dozens of prominent collectors of American music ephemera. \nThis exhibit is made possible by Visit Mississippi and Mississippi Humanities Council with additional support from Ergon\, Inc.\, South Delta Planning and Development District\, Maddox Foundation\, Southern Tire Mart\, Gipson Mechanical\, and Visit Cleveland.\nGRAMMY Museum Mississippi is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Museum is closed on Mondays. SUMMARY:Registration Open for the 2nd Annual Move On Up Gospel Event until March 30th
DESCRIPTION:Registration is open for the 2nd annual Move on Up Gospel Sing-Off.  \nThe event celebrating gospel music is being presented by the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music with support from Doug Gallagher. \nThe winning choir will receive a $10\,000 award to be used to improve any aspect of its ensemble.  The runner-up will receive a $5\,000 award. Six choirs will be chosen from the entries to participate in a “sing-off” to determine the winner. Participants in this year’s sing-off will be announced in early April. \nAny New Jersey-based church or community choir can easily register for the event online and submit a video from a cell phone. All levels of choirs and praise teams are welcome to participate. \n “Move on Up is less a competition than a celebration\,” added Robert Santelli\, executive director of the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music.  “It’s a showcase of gospel talent\, a tribute to gospel music\, and a chance to award prize money to be used to elevate the contemporary sounds of the music.” \nRegistration will close on March 30th. Move on Up! finals will take place on Saturday\, May 10th at 2pm in Pollak Theatre on the campus of Monmouth University.  Admission is free.

DESCRIPTION:The Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music has announced the honorees of its third annual American Music Honors event\, to be held Saturday\, April 26 on the campus of Monmouth University in West Long Branch\, N.J. \nThe 2025 honorees are: Smokey Robinson\, John Fogerty\, Emmylou Harris\, Tom Morello\, and Joe Ely.  Artist\, songwriter\, producer Smokey Robinson was one of the architects of the famed ‘60s Motown Sound/the Sound of Young America with classics as “The Tracks of My Tears\,” “Tears of a Clown\,” and “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me.” John Fogerty is best known for being the singer\, songwriter\, and frontman for the legendary band Creedence Clearwater Revival. His hits include “Proud Mary\,” “Fortunate Son\,” and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain.” \nEmmylou Harris is one of country music’s greatest voices\, whose contributions to country have set the bar for so many of today’s female artists.  Tom Morello has made his mark on modern rock with Rage Against the Machine\, The Nightwatchman\, and even as an occasional member of The E Street Band.  Austin\, Texas-based Joe Ely is known as one of the pioneers of progressive country and an early purveyor of what is now Americana. \nThe host for American Music Honors will be journalist and veteran television news anchor\, Brian Williams. \n“This year’s honorees represent a cross-section of American music\,” said Robert Santelli\, Founding Executive Director of the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music.  “Rock\, Americana\, soul\, and country are all represented by some of the most important artists from each of the genres.  We are most excited to honor them and welcome them into the American Music Center family.” \nAmerican Music Honors will take place in Monmouth University’s Pollak Theatre.  Stevie Van Zandt’s Disciples of Soul will\, once again\, serve as the evening’s house band.  Award presenters include Van Zandt (Smokey Robinson)\, Bruce Springsteen (John Fogerty and Joe Ely)\, Patti Scialfa (Emmylou Harris)\, and Nils Lofgren (Tom Morello). \nTickets for the Third Annual American Music Honors will go on sale to the public on Tuesday\, March 25.  Ticket information is available on the  https://springsteencenter.org. \n“Monmouth University is extremely proud to host the third annual American Music Honors\,” said Monmouth University president Dr. Patrick Leahy.  “The program has become one of the most exciting music events in New Jersey.  We’re honored to welcome John Fogerty\, Emmylou Harris\, Smokey Robison\, Tom Morello\, and Joe Ely to our campus and celebrate their great accomplishments to American music.” \nThe Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music serves as the official repository for the music of Bruce Springsteen\, plus photographs\, periodicals\, oral histories\, rare recordings\, films\, and artifacts related to Springsteen and The E Street Band.  The Center for American Music produces museum exhibitions\, symposia and seminars\, teacher workshops\, concerts\, internships\, and various other public programs to promote and celebrate the many forms of American music and their impact on our culture and national identity.
